라틴아메리카의 유명한 작가 개브리엘 가르시아 마르커스 님은 

켄서의 악화로 인해 작가로서의 마지막 활동을 거두기전에  보내는 편지 입니다.

Mr.Gabriel Garcia Marquez, great Latin American writer, 

has said goodbye to the public life due to complications in his health: lymphatic cancer.

 

그는 친구들에게 이 편지를 띄었으며 감사하게도 인터넷을 통해 우리와 함께 나눌수 있게 되었습니다.

He has sent a letter to his friends and thanks to the Internet we all are able to share it.

 

 

그의 감동적인 편지를 읽어 보시기를 권합니다

one of the most brilliant Latin American of the past years is really inspiring.

“혹시 신이 잠시의 실수로 꼭두각시 신세일지라도 한조각의 생명을 다시 준다면

나는 최선을 다해 그 삶을 기회로 삼아 살아 볼것이다”

“If for an instant God forgot that I am just a puppet, and He gave me one more piece of life, 

I would take advantage of that time, the best I could.”

 

 

내가 생각하는 모든 것 말하지 아니할 것이며 당연히, 하는 말들은 모두 생각 할것이다 

I would probably not say everything I think, but definitely think all I say.

 

 

가치는 가격에 두지 아니하며 그 의미에 둘 것이다

I would value things not for what they are worth, but for what they represent.

 

 

일분간 눈을 감으면 60초의 빛을 잃어 버리니 수면은 줄이고 더 많은 꿈을 꾸며 살 것이다.

I would sleep less and dream more. 

For every minute we close our eyes we lose sixty seconds of light.

 

 

남들과 같이 잠시 쉬곤 하지만 남들이 잠들어 누울때 나는 일어 나리라

I would continue where others have stopped and I would rise when others sleep.

 

 

나에게  한 조각의 생명이 다시 한번 주어 진다면 옷은 가볍게  입을 것이며, 

내 육신 만이 아니라 영혼 마져 모두 벗어 버린 채 빛 아래 딩굴어 보리라

If God allowed me one more piece of life, I would dress simpler, 

would wallow in the sunlight, leaving uncovered, not only my body but also my soul.

 

 

노년이 되면 사랑에  빠질수 없다는 생각이 얼마나 잘못인가를 증명 하리라

사실은 사랑에  빠질수 없을 때 그는 늙기 시작하는 것이다

I would prove to men how wrong they are to think that they stop falling in love as they get older, 

since they actually start getting older as soon as they stop falling in love..

 

 

나는 아이들에게 날개를 달아 줄 것이다.

아이는 언젠가 혼자서 날아야 하는 방법을 배워야 할 테니까.

그러나 간섭은 아니 할 것이다.

I would give wings to the children, 

but I would leave the child alone 

so that he could learn how to fly on his own.

 

 

어르신들에게는 죽음이란 연세로 오는것이 아니요 

기억의 상실에서 오는 것이라고 보여 드릴 것이다

To the old, I would show them 

how death comes not with the ageing process but with forgetting. 

 

 

그대들로부터 많은 것을 배웠습니다.

사람들마다 최고의 자리를 원하고 있었고,

최고를 향해 어떻게 진행 하는 가의  중요함은 전혀 잊고 있다는 것을

So many things I have learned from you….

I have learned that everybody wants to live at the top of the mountain,

forgetting that is how we climb is all that matters.

 

 

또 내가 배운 것 중, 갖난아기가 아빠의 엄지 손가락을 잡을 때

아가는 아빠를 영원히 잡고 있다는 사실과

I have learned that when a newborn grabs his father’s thumb, 

he takes a hold on him forever. 

 

 

사람은 누구나 다른 사람을 아래로 내려다볼 권리가 있으나

다만 그를 도와 일으켜 올릴 때만 그런 권리가 있다는 것을,

I have learned that a man has the right to look down on somebody, 

only when he is helping him to get up.

 

 

너무나 많은것을 그대들로 부터 배웠 습니다. 

어찌 느끼시는지, 무엇을 생각 하시는지, 언제나 말씀 하 십시요

So many things I have learned from all of you.

Always tell, what you feel and do what you think.

 

 

오늘이 그대를 볼수있는 마지막 날이라면

그대 영혼의 보호자로 힘있게 껴안을 것입니다.

If I knew that today it would be the last time that I will see you, 

I will embrace you strongly to be the guardian of your soul.

 

만일 이순간이 그대와의 마지막 1분이라면

“나 그대 사랑한다”고 말할 것이나 그대는 전혀 알지 못할 것입니다

If I would know that these would be the last minutes 

that I will see you, I would say to you 

“I love you” and wouldn´t assume that you would know it. 

 

 

언제나 아침이 오면, 

좋은 것들을 만들어 볼 수 있는 또 다른 기회가 찾아 옵니다.

There is always morning where life gives us 

another opportunity to make things good.

 

 

당신 에게 소중한 이들을 항상 가까이 하며, 

얼마나 필요한지 얼마나 사랑하는지 말 하십시요.

애써서 “미안해”, “용서해”, “고마워”, 

그대가 알고있는  겸손과 사랑의 말을 표현 하십시요 

Keep always close to you, your dear ones, and tell them 

how much you need them and love and take care of them. 

Take time to say, “I am sorry”, “forgive me”, “please,” “ thank you” and 

all the nice and lovely words you know. 

 

 

마음속 에 만 담아두시면 아무도 당신을 기억 할수 없 습니다

억지로 라도 표현 하시도록 노력 하십시요

Nobody would remember you if you keep your thoughts secret.

Force yourself to express them.

 

 

그대에게 소중한 이들과 친구에게

그들이 얼마나 당신에게 소중하며 사랑하고 있노라고 표현으로 보이십시요 

Show  your friends and dear ones how much you care about them.
